House builder quotes

Cost per square metre on a house quote

Cost per square metre is the quote total divided by the floor area. It is a way to compare two quotes for similar houses, not a proof that one of them is fair. A city with few recorded quotes should say so rather than invent an average.

How it is counted

Take the total on the quote and the floor area in m². Divide. The same figure in ft² is the m² figure divided by 10.7639. If the area is unknown, the per-area line cannot be drawn.

What it does not say

Two houses in the same city can differ because one includes a pool, a steep site, or imported finishes. The index stores every line as it appeared, not one canonical rate.

Read one before you buy one

The specimen shows the whole structure: status, what each payment was meant to buy, the forecast with its range, the photographic record and the limits of what was checked.
