Preliminaries
Preliminaries are the overhead lines on a house quote: site setup, insurance, supervision, waste and temporary works. They sit before the measured construction items.
Also called: prelims, general requirements
Every house quote should name preliminaries explicitly or show them inside a clear heading. If the section is missing, ask whether those costs sit elsewhere or were omitted.
Preliminaries are not profit by another name, but they vary by contractor and site. Comparing two quotes means checking that both carry similar site costs, not only structure and finishes.
The free headings tool lists preliminaries among the usual house sections. A paid reading adds how much of the total they represent.
If preliminaries are absent, ask what covers site management and insurance before you treat the structural total as complete.
